Roland is the CEO of Dickey’s Capital Group, a holding company that owns the Dickey’s BBQ Pit franchise brand. Dickey’s BBQ Pit was opened in 1941 by Roland’s grandfather, a single-handed operation for 26 years until he passed away. Roland’s grandfather would work the pit while his grandmother served sandwiches and ran the cash register, and they loved nothing more than chatting with the customers all day long. My father and uncle had been away at college when he passed away, but they returned home to help my grandmother and took over the business.

Roland’s father began developing his own recipes, and as they became increasingly popular, they opened additional locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. As the company grew, they began franchising their restaurants. At the time Roland became CEO in 2006, the franchise was already operating in 20 locations. Roland grew up immersed in the family business, learning all about the family’s smoke processes.

Dickey’ Barbecue Pit Successes

Roland worked for Dickey’ Barbecue Pit as it grew from a small chain to the fastest-growing barbecue franchise globally with over 400 restaurants. Under his leadership, his company has earned many accolades, including two “Best Franchise Deal” awards from OSR and recognition as one of Fast Casual’s “Top 100 Movers and Shakers” for four years running. As a result of its success, the company has been named the “Best Food and Drink Franchise” by Global Franchises and the “Most Established Brand” by Franchise Help.
